You may be a whizz at a straight line and even a button hole on a sewing machine but have you ever thought of giving a bit of freestyle letter writing a go? It’s great fun and can feel quite liberating to not feel the need to keep your sewing as neat as usual or the pressure of the pressure foot in place.
So first things first, remove that presser foot.
Use an embroidery hoop, large enough to allow space for your text with room to spare so the machine foot doesn’t hit off the edge.
Set your chosen fabric into the hoop with the right side down. Then flip everything over so the right side is facing you. Use a fabric pencil to mark out your chosen text. Alternatively you can completely freestyle it for a more rustic look!
Then sit the hoop in place under the needle. Let the needle down where you want to start and go for it. Slowly at first and then get to a pace you are comfortable with. Go back and forth over each letter as many times as you please to achieve your desired intensity of letter.
Once complete, release the fabric from the hoop and cut out the tag shape. Sew the edges to finish or leave rustic as I have done here, fabric dependant. Use your tag as you like.
